Quick Takeaways

  • DNA is the drive mode dial on the center console: d (Dynamic), n (Natural) and a (Advanced Efficiency).
  • Natural is the default and the right choice for most daily driving.
  • Dynamic sharpens throttle, shifts and steering; Advanced Efficiency saves fuel and helps in heavy rain.
  • Race is exclusive to Quadrifoglio models and turns stability control off.

What is Alfa Romeo DNA?

Alfa Romeo DNA is a drive mode selector that changes throttle response, shift timing, steering feel and stability systems with one turn of a dial. The three standard modes are Dynamic, Natural and Advanced Efficiency. Giulia and Stelvio Quadrifoglio models add Race mode through the DNA Pro system.

Three letters, one dial, and a noticeably different car depending on where you point it. Here’s what each mode changes, and which one fits the drive you’re about to take.

What Each DNA Mode Changes

Your Alfa Romeo starts in n (Natural) every time.

Dynamic

Sharper, louder, quicker to respond

  • Faster throttle and more aggressive shifts
  • Heavier, more direct steering
  • Firmer damping where equipped
n

Natural

The default: balanced and composed

  • Smooth, progressive throttle
  • Comfort-focused shifts and ride
  • Balanced fuel economy
a

Advanced Efficiency

Maximum economy, extra calm

  • Softened throttle and early upshifts
  • Settings tuned to save fuel
  • Gentler power in heavy rain
R

Race

Quadrifoglio only: track settings

  • Most aggressive throttle and shifts
  • Overboost for maximum output
  • Stability control switched off

Why Alfa Romeo Uses One Dial Instead Of A Menu

Many performance cars bury drive settings in touchscreen menus with dozens of combinations. Alfa Romeo went the other way: one physical dial that changes several systems together, so you can switch modes by feel without taking your eyes off the road.

DNA works hand in hand with the rest of the chassis. On all-wheel-drive models, it also adjusts how the Q4 all-wheel drive system behaves, and on sport-tuned trims like Veloce, the difference between N and D is especially easy to feel.

Yes. The dial can be turned at any time while driving, and the change takes effect right away.
