Same engine, same output. Both use the 2.0L turbo four making 280 hp and 306 lb-ft through an eight-speed automatic. Power is not the deciding factor.
Giulia — lower, lighter, better on fuel, rear-wheel drive standard. The driver’s choice.
Stelvio — nine and a half inches taller, more ground clearance, more cargo, all-wheel drive standard.
Which One Should You Buy?
Because the powertrain is identical, this comes down to body style rather than performance. Choose the Giulia if you want the sharper-handling car, better fuel economy, and a low-slung sedan that fits any garage in Broward. Choose the Stelvio if you want ground clearance for flooded streets during wet season, a higher seating position, and room for more than a weekend’s worth of luggage.
GIULIA
THE SEDAN
Rear-wheel drive standard, 27 mpg combined, 0–60 in 5.1 seconds. Lower, lighter, and more eager to change direction.
STELVIO
THE SUV
All-wheel drive standard, 8.1 inches of ground clearance, and 18.5 cubic feet behind the rear seats.
Both run the same 2.0-liter turbocharged four making 280 horsepower and 306 lb-ft through the same eight-speed automatic. Anyone telling you one is faster is talking about weight and height, not engine.
Wet Season Clearance
The Stelvio sits on 8.1 inches of ground clearance. During king tides and heavy afternoon storms, streets around Las Olas Isles, Victoria Park and the beach barrier island take on standing water — and that extra height is the most practical difference between these two cars.
Nine and a Half Inches
That is the height gap between them. Older Fort Lauderdale garages, valet decks and condo parking structures with posted clearance bars are a non-issue in the Giulia and worth measuring for the Stelvio.
Rear-Wheel Drive, If You Want It
The Giulia comes standard with rear-wheel drive and offers all-wheel drive. The Stelvio is Q4 all-wheel drive only. If you want the more playful, rear-driven car, only one of these offers it.
Fuel and Range
27 mpg combined against 24. Over a year of Broward commuting the difference is real but modest — enough to notice, not enough to decide on by itself.
Cargo and Access
The Stelvio’s liftgate and 18.5 cubic feet handle beach chairs, strollers and golf bags more easily than the Giulia’s 13.4-cubic-foot trunk. The Giulia’s 40/20/40 rear seat folds with a pass-through for longer items.
South Florida Specifics
Standing Water
King tides and summer storms leave water on low-lying streets east of Federal. If you park or drive in those areas regularly, the Stelvio’s clearance is the single most practical reason to choose it.
Garage Clearance
Check your building’s posted height before deciding. The Giulia clears essentially anything at 56.5 inches; the Stelvio needs more room, especially with roof rails.
Salt Air
Both need more frequent washing than the maintenance schedule requires — particularly the undercarriage, and particularly if you park east of the Intracoastal.
If you have narrowed it to an SUV, the Tonale is the smaller and less expensive of our two — and it holds more behind its rear seats than the Stelvio does. We compared those two separately in our Tonale vs. Stelvio guide.
The Giulia, marginally — roughly 5.1 seconds to 60 mph against about 5.5 for the Stelvio. Both use the same 280-horsepower engine, so the difference comes from weight and height rather than power.
The Stelvio. Its 8.1 inches of ground clearance handles standing water better than the Giulia’s lower sedan body — relevant during king tides and heavy summer storms in low-lying areas.
The Giulia has a 13.4-cubic-foot trunk. The Stelvio holds 18.5 cubic feet behind its rear seats, with a liftgate that makes bulky items easier to load.

See Them Both
Same Italian engine, two completely different ways to enjoy it. The Giulia keeps you low and connected to the road; the Stelvio gives you the clearance and cargo that South Florida living demands.
